Our Theme and our Candle for the 2nd Sunday of Advent is Love. And it is because of God’s love that he got down to business. As John the Baptist points out, “I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (Mk 1:8). John’s Baptism might have brought repentance and forgiveness, but it did not bring life and salvation. Only Jesus could give us new life, only Jesus could give us the Holy Spirit. Out of Love, God got down to business by sending His Son. It is because of God’s love that Jesus came when He did. And it is because of God’s love that Jesus will return on the last day to bring eternal life and salvation to us.
